School reopens...

Yesterday I went to attend a yearly talk for all parents in zyon's school.
After the talk, the parent went to the respective classes to meet their child's teachers. Students need not attend, thus, I didn't want zyon to come along.
It was very fruitful as the teacher prepare us of what to expect in this coming year and ways to help our child to improve. Luckily, the teacher is the same as last year and she is very responsible and rather strict with the kids.
One of the parents told the teacher that she should give the kids more homework as he believes homework can do a lot to help the kid! OMG! Personally, I don't really agree with this. When the teacher asked for other opinions, I raised my hands and said that I disagree.
I find that the current load of homework is sufficient. Perhaps bcos I'm a working mother and for the parent who raised the question, his wife is not working. They find much more time on hand. Of cos, these are my assumptions only.
Being a working mother is not easy. Other than his daily homework, I have to ensure that he has to learn his weekly spelling (for both langauges) over the weekend as we can't afford the time to let him learn on weekdays. Of cos, he attends add'l classess too.
Before he starts Primary 1, I have been telling myself to allow him to learn on his own speed, to let him study and grow independantly. However, this is almost impossible! Initially when he started Pri 1, he suffered. Both him and I suffered. I had deep regrets. Luckily, after some advice from experienced mummies, he improved half a yr after I send him to enrichment classes. Concentration on his english and maths lead to a drop in his mandarin at yr-end... Oh gosh!
These are why and how I started him with the additional classes. I know that there are pple ard me who feels tt I'm stressing the kids. But well, I do not want to have any regrets. And i just hope tt pple do not give comments if they are not in our shoes ...Cos they will give additional burden and stress unknowingly...
